Ebbsfleet secretary Peter Danzey has resigned after 12 years in the role.

Having worked alongside seven Ebbsfleet managers, he will follow wife Maggie into retirement after over a decade of service at Stonebridge Road.

Well known in local football circles, Peter served as secretary and fixture secretary of the Gravesend League until it folded in 2012.

As a player, Peter turned out more than 800 times for his works side at Empire Paper Mills. He played for 18 years from 1960-78 and after hanging up his boots continued to serve as the club’s secretary until it was disbanded in 1996.

He was honoured by the FA in 2013 for his half-century of service to the game, the most prestigious award the association gives out to its administrative officials. Peter also recovered from a breast cancer diagnosis in 2018.

The club said: "Ebbsfleet United would like to pay tribute for all Peter and his wife Maggie have done in his 12 years at the club.

"We wish them both a very happy retirement and look forward to welcoming them back in more relaxed roles as cherished supporters of the football club in the future."

Wife Maggie had been kit manager since 2013.

Fleet chief executive Damian Irvine said: “We’ve been honoured to have Maggie as part of the club during my relatively short time here, and Maggie’s legacy from her many years of dedication and hard work is vast.

"We have all benefited from having Maggie’s influence and commitment to the club and she will be missed, although will always be a part of the club and welcome in an honorary club kit manager capacity in recognition of her outstanding service to the club.”
