Nathan Ashmore says he’s fulfilled a lifetime ambition by going full-time with Ebbsfleet.

Fleet paid Gosport an undisclosed fee for the goalkeeper last week and Ashmore has kept clean sheets in his first two games for Daryl McMahon's side.

During five years at Privett Park, Ashmore won two promotions and played in an FA Trophy final at Wembley but when Ebbsfleet came calling, he didn’t need asking twice.

Ashmore said: "It’s been my lifelong dream to play full-time football. Now that I’ve got the opportunity, I’m going to take it with both hands.

"To come here, to play full-time football, obviously they’re top of the league and hopefully we can win the league, play in the Conference next year and go even higher.

"My hope for the future is to go on and get to League football.

"It was a massive decision to leave Gosport because all my friends are there.

"But I just had to focus on my career and it was an opportunity I didn’t want to turn down. It might be an opportunity I never get again."

Ashmore has taken Brandon Hall’s place in goal, the 22-year-old having previously been ever-present for the National League South leaders.

Fleet boss McMahon said: "I think Brandon can learn from Nathan. Nathan’s got some qualities that Brandon, as a young goalkeeper, hasn’t got yet. He’s confident and an
extrovert whereas Brandon’s a little bit quieter.

"He’s big and loud and he’s a good goalkeeper at this level. Lots of clubs have watched him and there have been some Football League bids from last year that didn’t quite happen.

"You need competition and we have got competition all over the pitch. If you look at the players we’ve got, it’s a competitive squad and I just thought, in the run-in, he could freshen it up in goal."
