Ebbsfleet goalkeeper Preston Edwards has waited three years to play in a play-off semi-final.

Edwards was injured in 2010/11 when the Fleet beat Chelmsford 6-2 on aggregate, although he did return for the final at Farnborough, which Liam Daish's side won 4-2.

Daren Hawkes deputised for Edwards in both legs of the 2011 semi-final, so the 24-year-old is relishing the chance to be involved from the start against Bromley this time around.

Edwards said: "I didn’t play in the last semi-final, so I’m looking forward to my first semi-finals of the play-offs. Hopefully we can get into the final. I was lucky enough to play in the play-off final, but in the semi-final we had Daren Hawkes and he did extremely well. I was lucky to get my place back in the final, actually.

"Hopefully I can do it all the way through now. It would mean so much to me, because Ebbsfleet is my club and I love it.

"It’s going to be brilliant. It’s going to be a cracking atmosphere, a Kent derby. I want to hear as many numbers of Ebbsfleet fans coming down and I want them to be positive. No negative thoughts because we need positivity while we’re in the play-offs. We’ve achieved the bare minimum, so let’s get the maximum and get promoted."

Edwards was one of just four members of last season's Fleet squad kept on by Steve Brown when the former Charlton player succeeded Daish as manager last summer.

He said: "We want to get promoted now. That was the aim when all of us signed our contracts. You want to be playing at the highest level possible and we’ve got an opportunity now. I want to grasp it with both hands and I want everyone to feel the same direction that I want to be going in.

"We’ve all done it (qualifying for the play-offs), which is important, and it’s for the new owners. I’m really looking forward to it but it will be a very tough game against Bromley because they’re a very attacking team. I’m really looking forward to Wednesday now and hopefully there will be a big crowd at Stonebridge Road."
