Myles Weston has spent the last 11 years in the Football League and believes Ebbsfleet can take him back there.

Weston is preparing for his first season in non-league football after joining Fleet on a free transfer from Wycombe Wanderers.

But the 29-year-old, who’s played in League 1 for Brentford, Gillingham and Southend, believes the infrastructure at Stonebridge Road will help launch the club to a higher level than they’ve ever played at before.

Weston said: "If I didn’t think this club was going anywhere, I wouldn’t have signed.

"I’m ambitious myself. I don’t want to just come and play football, I want to get promoted. I want to look to a club that’s going in the right direction.

"I’m only 29 and want to win trophies. The way the club’s set up, going to Portugal, having the GPS monitors, the way training is, being full-time, it’s Football League standard.

"Even though we’re not in the Football League, the way the club’s run, it’s going in the right direction and getting better all the time.

"It’s an ambitious club. Everyone knows where this club wants to go and I’m just happy to be part of that."

Weston helped Wycombe to a ninth-placed finish in League 2 last season, making 20 appearances for Gareth Ainsworth’s side.

He said: "I had another year (on my contract) at Wycombe so I didn’t think I was going to move but I’m happy I’m here, for different reasons.

"To help the club get into the Football League, that’s one of the reasons, I’m local – and the manager wanted me. When a manager wants you, that’s important.

"If a manager puts his time and effort into trying to get you, that means a lot. I’ve got to repay the manager with performances."

Weston, who lives in Wilmington, added: "Since 18, I’ve played in the Football League and that’s one of the reasons I feel I can bring a lot to the team – not just playing but experience.

"Hopefully, I can give the rest of the boys some of my experience and help us try to get promoted.

"I’ve never played in the Conference, I’ve always played in the Football League so hopefully I can bring my experience and help the rest of the players to try to get promoted."
