An away point on Ebbsfleet's return to the National League should have been all three according to boss Daryl McMahon.

Fleet came from behind to lead 2-1 at Guiseley but it finished 2-2 in Yorkshire.

"I thought we were the better team," McMahon said. "We performed really well in our first game.

"We dominated large parts of it but didn’t take our chances to be honest.

"We moved the ball really well again. We played better than we’ve played in pre-season and created a number of chances but didn’t capitalise on them.

"We’ve got plenty of stuff to work on going forward.

"It wasn’t massively different to what we’re used to.

"The stuff in the boxes, we’ve got to get better at, defending and attacking, but in terms of the actual game, we played well, moved the ball well and dominated the majority of it."

Darren McQueen was credited with both Fleet goals even though their first was originally given to summer signing Myles Weston.

"The first one hit his shin," McMahon said. "It was going in from Westy’s shot so it was a bit of a cheek trying to get it but he did have the last touch technically.

"The second one was a very good finish from him.

"It’s the highest level he’s played at so far. It’s important for him that he makes his mark and he certainly did on Saturday."
