History will be made this weekend if Ebbsfleet beat Skrill South promotion rivals Sutton at Stonebridge Road.

A ninth straight win would set a new club record as well as lifting the Fleet above their big-spending visitors.

Victory at Whitstable in the FA Trophy last Saturday equalled the record and set up a trip to Havant & Waterlooville in the last-16.

But the visit of Sutton is Ebbsfleet’s most important game of the season so far
and it precedes festive fixtures against Kent rivals Bromley – twice – and Dover.

Fleet boss Steve Brown said: "Every time we go into a game, it’s like a must-win game. I see Sutton as another must-win game and we should be full of confidence.

"We’re 14 wins in 17 games, which is an astonishing run. I don’t think there’s enough credit given to the players or to us as staff for the turnaround from that stuttering start we had.

"It’s a tough Christmas period. We’ll see where we’re at come the start of January – if we’re within shouting distance, I fancy us."
