Paul Gascoigne hopes his consortium will have taken control of Kettering before the FA Cup tie with Fleet

GRAVESEND are heading for a possible appointment with Paul Gascoigne later this month after Kettering beat St Albans 4-0 on Tuesday night to earn the right to meet the Fleet in an FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie at Rockingham Road on October 22.

The 38-year-old former England, Newcastle, Tottenham and Lazio midfielder and his consortium are bidding to buy Kettering within the next two weeks.

If successful, the Fleet will be confronted by a side bolstered by Gascoigne in a player-coach role.

Imran Ladak, the businessman responsible for involving Gascoigne in his plans for the Poppies is confident the consortium will have taken control by the time the Fleet visit.

He said: "Both sets of solicitors are completing the due diligence required to satisfy both parties. I would expect everything to be settled by the time we play Gravesend in the next round of the FA Cup."

Gascoigne had been coaching in Portugal when he was persuaded to join the Kettering bid.

Meanwhile, supporters will have the opportunity to question chairman Brian Kilcullen and members of Gravesend’s board of directors at a football forum on Tuesday. The evening starts at 7.30pm.
