Gravesend & N 2 Hitchin 0

GRAVESEND & Northfleet kept the pressure on Ryman League leaders Canvey Island with an impressive win over Hitchin at Stonebridge Road. Skipper Jimmy Jackson put Fleet in front on 41 minutes but, despite laying siege on the visiting goal in the second half, they did not get the second until four minutes from full-time.

The first breakthrough came when Darren Smith played in Jackson and his sweetly struck drive from the edge of the box went into the bottom left-hand corner of the net.

Fleet really started to pile on the pressure after the break and had efforts from Booth, Robert Owen and Francis Duku cleared off the line in quick succession midway through the half.

The second goal finally arrived when Owen embarked on a weaving run down the right and centred the ball for substitute Liam Hatch to bundle the ball over the line at the far post.

Fleet: Turner, Burton, Martin (Lee 86mins), Lye, Barnett, Duku, Smith, Owen, Wilkins (Hatch 75mins), Booth, Jackson (McKimm 86mins).
