Anthony Cook has become the fifth player this week to leave Ebbsfleet United.

The winger started every single league game during his time at the club, having joined in summer 2013.

He made a total of 85 appearances for the Fleet, scoring 19 goals, and he was voted supporters' player-of-the-year for 2013-14.

But he told the club's website: "It is with a heavy heart that today I have left Ebbsfleet United.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club and would like to wish everyone at the Fleet all the best.

"I’m proud to have represented such a brilliant club and would like to say a special thank you to Steve Brown and Peter Varney."

Mr Varney paid tribute to the 25-year-old's contribution to the club.

He said: "It is always difficult to come to these decisions about players who have appeared so many times for the club and we all wish Anthony the best of luck in wherever he goes next.

"The club and the players are having to make decisions based on what is best for both parties going forward as we adjust the squad.

"I’m sure all fans will join me in thanking Anthony for all his efforts in a Fleet shirt over the past 18 months."

Cook follows Billy Bricknell, Ben May, Shane Huke and Michael Corcoran out of Ebbsfleet in a week which has seen striker Adam Cunnington join on an 18-month deal from Cambridge United.

Fleet boss Jamie Day has also signed defenders Matt Fish and Kelvin Langmead, midfielders Theo Lewis and Stuart Lewis and forwards Danny Kedwell and Tyrone Marsh since succeeding Brown at the PHB Stadium just over five weeks ago.

Meanwhile, Cambridge United defender Tom Bonner is expected to sign for the Fleet on Friday.
