ROY Essandoh's major impact for Gravesend & Northfleet since his arrival from Bishop's Stortford last season has been recognised by Northern Ireland team boss Lawrie Sanchez.

Sanchez, who managed the striker at former club Wycombe, has placed him on standby for the international against Austria on October 13. He will only travel if called up.

"I spoke to Lawrie Sanchez on Monday and he told me he will call Roy into the squad should he be hit for three or four injuries," said Fleet boss Andy Ford.

Essandoh took his goal tally for the season to five with two in Saturday's 4-1 home win over Leigh RMI.

Meanwhile, the Fleet have signed 19-year-old ex-Arsenal academy player Tafazzul Islam after impressing in the reserves.

"He looks very promising and is definitely one for the future," said Ford who gave him his debut as an 81st minute substitute for Manny Omoyinmi against Leigh on Saturday.
