Ebbsfleet winger Dominic Green is happy just to be playing football again after two injury-plagued seasons with Dagenham & Redbridge.

Green was released by the Daggers in May and subsequently underwent his second hernia operation in the space of 24 months.

Having played in five of the Fleet’s seven pre-season friendlies, the 24-year-old signed a deal at Stonebridge Road on the eve of the new Skrill South season.

Green said: “I knew that once the operation was done I had to graft, get my fitness back and then go from there. I just wanted to play football.

“I had no pre-season under my belt. Daryl McMahon (a youth coach at Dagenham) knew my situation and gave me a text, to come down here and get a few games in.

“I enjoyed it. I played a few games, I liked the way they played football. It’s a good squad, the whole environment is decent. I just felt at home.”

Fleet boss Steve Brown offered Green a contract but the winger also attracted interest from other Skrill South clubs.

He said: “I didn’t want to rush into anything. Because of my situation, being at Dagenham, the two years I was there, two hernia operations, I just wanted to play. At the same time, I had a few offers, so I was just biding my time. I was at Ebbsfleet for a while so I thought it was only right to come here because I knew everyone and I felt comfortable here.”
