Ebbsfleet United proving to be the toughest job of Garry Hill's managerial career

Garry Hill has described the rebuilding job facing him at Ebbsfleet as the toughest challenge of his career.
After releasing the majority of this season’s squad for financial reasons, Fleet boss Hill will next week start shaping a new one virtually from scratch.
Hill’s been in management for the best part of 30 years but never faced anything quite like this.
He said: “I might only get one or two days away this summer and that’s been well-documented in my own house, to be honest.
“It’s probably the toughest challenge going forward that I’ve got in front of me as a manager than what I’ve had in the past.
“But you must never shy away from things. It’s all right going to work when the sun shines, that’s life, but hopefully (there will be) common sense and patience around the football club from supporters and everybody.
“When the time is right, I will have a meeting with the supporters and anybody else who wishes to attend, to express what I would like to do and answer anything in respect of the playing side.
“It’s something that will go on in the near future but at the moment, I’ve got a little bit more to be dealing with before I can arrange or agree to that.”
Hill’s focus during May has been moving players out of the club, with six still available on free transfers until tomorrow (Friday).
But a new month means a new start and the start of Ebbsfleet’s recruitment process for 2019/20.
Hill said: “I’m looking forward to June. I’ll know where I am this Friday and it opens things up a lot more for the way I want to go.
“I’ve given an opportunity for a month on certain difficult situations for people to make decisions or think about things.
“I’ve given an opportunity and that ends on Friday and then I will assess my squad going forward, what I think is right for me to build with.
“I think I deserve to (have more control) after seven months of working hard with everybody connected to the football club, to try to get a little bit of freshness going forward and my hands are not tied so much.
“I’m working under a new financial construction and there’s a situation and an opportunity which is right for everybody going forward.
“This is very important for the football club if what I’ve been told by the boss (Dr Abdulla Al-Humaidi) to me and (managing director) Dave Archer in a meeting will be the way forward.
“There will be additions and changes under the manager. That’s all I can say at the present time, but you have backroom staff and there’s a financial construction and a way of going forward which I’ve got to manage a lot different from the way I believe it’s been managed in the past.”
