Daryl McMahon has spoken out about his £13,000 transfer from Dover to Ebbsfleet.

The Irishman felt he was not wanted by Whites manager Chris Kinnear, despite Dover turning down the Fleet’s initial bid for him.

And he needed no second invitation to renew acquaintances with new Fleet boss Steve Brown when the two clubs did agree on a fee.

McMahon said: “Dover phoned me to say ‘they’ve offered a fee and it’s not enough’ but they didn’t want me to stay. I wasn’t going to be the style of player they wanted. They never said they wanted to keep me.

“I’ve taken quite a big pay cut because I believe Steve is taking this club forward. He’s a popular guy and a good coach.

“The pitch is going to be good and we’ve signed good players, so there’s no doubt we’ll get the ball down and pass it. I want to play football that way.”

The 29-year-old midfielder has spent the last four seasons in Conference South. He played for Farnborough, Boreham Wood and Eastleigh, before joining Dover last September.
