Gravesend 1 Weymouth 3
GRAVESEND were beaten on home soil despite dominating the Nationwide Conference match against Weymouth from start to finish.
The Fleet were left to rue a string of wasted chances and were hit by two goals scored on the break and a late penalty.
Fleet went into the break with a deserved one goal lead but it should have been far greater after having numerous chances.
Luke Moore netted the goal with 35 minutes gone but it was his strike partner Charlie MacDonald who got just as much credit, after opening up the Weymouth defence, before crossing well.
MacDonald had several shots saved and Fleet’s width was causing Weymouth problems and the half time interval couldn’t come quick enough for the visitors.
With just a goal in it Gravesend were always open to a counter attack and it was from one of these that Weymouth equalised, as substitute James Coutts fired in from close range on 52 minutes.
Just 12minutes later the same player scored again, from another break, to give the visitors the lead.
Gravesend remained dominant but struggled to get a clean sight of goal and a late penalty was tucked away by Tony James to seal an unconvincing win.
