The banter was flying after Dave Winfield’s winning goal for Ebbsfleet on Tuesday.

Centre-half Winfield showed a striker’s touch to swivel and fire into the bottom corner at Concord Rangers as Fleet claimed a 1-0 victory.

The 28-year-old, who arrived from York in the summer, said: "I’ve got a little bit of stick. The gaffer’s given me stick and the boys have given me stick.

"They didn’t think I had that in the locker but there are things to come from me.

"I’ve come here to achieve things and if I can pop up and contribute as I have done, it’s happy days.

"I probably average four or five a season but the majority are headed goals so it was nice to pop up with that one.

"We do a lot of work in training and everybody has to be able to finish.

"We work on one-v-ones a lot but they’re always turned round the other way as well so attacking players are going to find themselves in defensive positions at times and vice-versa.

"I was pleased to see it roll in the bottom corner."

Clean sheets are Winfield’s bread and butter and he’s helped Ebbsfleet keep two in the first week of the season.

He said: "For a defender, that is like scoring a goal. I thought we were solid on Tuesday.

"As a back five, our decision-making was good, which helps the players alongside us and around us.

"Concord made it difficult for us to play our football but it’s important you remain positive and don’t panic in those situations. I thought we dealt with it well."
