Maidstone Harrier Stephen Wenk breaks the two-hour barrier as 559 runners finish the North Downs 30k

An impressive field of 559 runners completed the North Downs 30K on Sunday.
Maidstone Harriers’ Stephen Wenk was the only athlete to break the two-hour barrier, coming home in 1hr58min30sec.
Kent AC’s Phil Sanders and Harold Wyber of Woodford Green completed the top three. Local interest came in the shape of Medway & Maidstone’s Tom Collins, who finished ninth (2:12.22), ahead of Dartford Harriers’ Chris Biddle (2:12.45) in 10th and 12th-placed Andrew Green of Dartford Road Runners in 2:15.26.
Host club Istead & Ifield Harriers were represented by Daniel Walsh (19th) in 2:18.59 with Dartford Harriers’ Nick Varley finishing 24th in 2:21.00.
The leading female athletes were Eton Manor’s Alex Gounelas in 2:16.44, Amy Clements of Kent AC in 2:18.34 and Nikki Brockbank of Springfield Striders in 2:21.26.
Serpentine RC were the leading male team ahead of Maidstone Harriers and Dartford Harriers, with Kent AC taking the female honours ahead of Mornington Chasers and Serpentine RC.
