Daryl McMahon admitted the result was all that mattered as Ebbsfleet won a league game at home for the first time since August.

Danny Kedwell's first-half goal was enough to beat a Barrow side who dominated proceedings at Stonebridge Road on Saturday.

But having taken just five points from their first nine home games, the manager wasn't bothered how these three came along.

McMahon said: "It’s a monkey off our backs.

"I think we’ve played far better this season and lost. Today was about getting that win and a clean sheet.

"It was about as ugly as you can get - three o'clock when the lights come on in the nightclub! We got one of those wins.

"You have to show spirit and togetherness and determination to keep that clean sheet - not fold or melt - do things properly and we did that."

On the ball, Fleet were a long way from their best but they made up for it by defending their penalty area manfully in the second half.

McMahon said: "Clark, Winfield, Ashmore, Payne in front of them, Jukesy and when Ebou went on as well, I thought they defended really well.

"Ashmore was outstanding, back to his brilliant best.

"I think the fans enjoyed the last bit at the end when Nathan came and caught it. It was like we’d scored a goal when Nathan came and caught that cross.

"The fans were excellent again today. They were as noisy as you like all game.

"They were brilliant at Salford and brilliant on Tuesday night as well."

Budget cuts will see McMahon's playing squad reduced but he insisted matters off the field will not affect things on it.

McMahon said: "We only focus on the football when we’re in the changing-room. That’s all we can do, we can’t affect anything else.

"As players and staff we have to make sure that every time we go out onto the pitch we represent the football club, represent the fans and represent each other.

"We’ve got very high standards of ourselves as a group and we’ll continue to try to match them.

"We’ve always been and we always will be committed to the football club. It’s a great football club.

"Everyone’s here for the right reasons, to progress the club as high as we can, and it was a committed performance by everyone.

"I just said to the lads in there, the performance today reminded me a lot of Solihull at home in January last season. They needed to get that win and they got it.

"It was a whole-hearted performance and that’s what this team always gives you."
