Steve McKimm has not played since injuring his knee against Woking last season

GRAVESEND club captain Steve McKimm is on track to fulfil his promise and return to contention early in the New Year.

The influential midfielder has not played since damaging cruciate knee ligaments at Woking last season. Following major surgery he has been in rehabilitation.

McKimm, who predicted he would make his comeback in January, believes he is three weeks away from a reserve team outing.

Fleet boss Liam Daish said: "Steve underwent a strength test on the knee and has received permission to move up to the next level. It will be like having a new signing when he returns."
