Ebbsfleet talisman Rakish Bingham insists they won’t get ahead of themselves in the chase for National League South honours.

The Fleet head to St Albans this evening aiming for a ninth win in 10 games. They sit 11 points clear of second-placed Dartford and 14 ahead of Havant, albeit having played two games more.

Many observers believe the league is already in the bag, but Bingham isn’t having any of that title talk.

“We’re doing really well at the moment but we’re not getting too ahead of ourselves,” said the 17-goal striker.

“The experienced lads in the dressing room are keeping everyone humble because we realise that we haven’t cracked it. We still have a long way to go.

“We don’t think it’s done and dusted at all. We’ve got targets and aims so until we reach them, the job’s not done.

“We want to be promoted, last season’s downfall spurred us on and we just want to put things right. We owe it to ourselves as well.”

So, does Bingham still think about that play-off final defeat to Dorking Wanderers?

“Not frequently but there’s times during a game when you’re a goal up or you’re hanging on and you remind yourself that it’s not done and dusted,” he responded.

“You have to put the game to bed and see it out. Whatever way you want to look at it, obviously that’s a reminder of last season in the play-off final.

“The focus is 110 per cent at the minute and long may it continue.”

Ebbsfleet’s form has been incredible since the turn of the year. Losing twice to rivals Dartford meant they’d lost four league games in a row by New Year's Day.

But they’ve taken 25 points from the last 27 available, a goalless draw at Chippenham last week the only blemish on an incredible run.

“When we’re doing really well, people talk and it’s the same when you’re doing bad, people talk,” explained Bingham.

“There’s going to be doubts from the outside but the core group and what we’ve built here, we’re very strong in our belief and what we want to do.

“Christmas was a bit of a wake-up call. We started the season brilliantly, 10 straight wins in league and cup and were flying. Sometimes when you are sky high, in moments you don’t think you are going to see the bottom again.

“But sometimes it does take a wake-up call to spur you on. We didn’t look at ourselves and think we’re rubbish, we’re a good team. We had a blip but let’s not forget about everything we did up to that point. I’m proud of the boys and the form that we’ve hit now.”
