GRAVESEND & Northfleet FC have appointed former Gillingham, Wimbledon and Maidstone midfielder Glenn Aitken as full-time chief executive.

Aitken, 50, succeeds commercial director Rob Grindley who left the club in April. Chairman Brian Kilcullen said: "Glenn's role will be primarily to drive the commercial side of the club."

Until moving to Stonebridge Road, Aitken had worked as assistant manager of Go Travel Kent League club Whitstable. He was also involved with Maidstone Sunday League club Lashings.

He said: "The opportunity came at the right time for me and was too good to pass up. I will miss everyone at Whitstable because I enjoyed my time there."

A former England youth international, Aitken gained commercial experience with the Kent Messenger Group and a series of free newspapers in the Midlands where he also had an advertising agency.
