Charlton Athletic caretaker boss Lee Bowyer criticised Shrewsbury Town for wasting time from the first minute of their game on Thursday.
The Addicks were beaten 1-0 in the first leg of their League 1 play-off semi-final at The Valley.
Jon Nolan’s spectacular goal separated the two sides to give Shrewsbury the advantage when the second leg is played on Sunday.
Bowyer said: “They were taking five minutes to take a goal kick from the beginning.
“The game has only started and you’re wasting time? It’s going to be difficult for sure because they are a good team - I just believe my team is better.
“I respect what the manager has done and what the team has done.
“They’re a good team with a certain way of playing, I know it but you have to compete against them. It’s not like we didn't compete and fight, everyone gave me everything. It was a good strike but we’ve still got another 90 minutes and so much can happen.”
Bowyer’s side started the better of the teams and dominated the first 20 minutes but did not take their chances.
They have another 90 minutes to turn it around when they travel to Shrewsbury on Sunday.
“I don’t think there was much in it,” Bowyer said. “They were two honest teams who gave everything. We had the better first 20 minutes and created two or three very good chances and didn’t take them.
“It took a very good strike from the lad at the end to get the win.
“There’s a long way to go yet. There’s still 90 minutes to play and not too long ago we went up there and won 2-0.
“There’s a lot of football to still be played and I believe my side is better than their side. “They’ve just beaten us but my team is better. We will go there on Sunday and turn things around.”
Charlton’s prospective buyer, Andrew Muir, was spotted at The Valley on Thursday night along with former player Paul Elliott.
However, Bowyer was not interested in what was happening off the football pitch with the club.
He said: “I have got no idea. I have got no interest whatsoever. All I have got now is to focus on tomorrow (Friday), Saturday and Sunday. And we will go from there.”
