Former Ebbsfleet striker Billy Bricknell fancies his chances of causing an upset on Saturday.
Bricknell is plying his trade with Isthmian Premier side Enfield Town and comes up against the Fleet in the FA Trophy first round.
Enfield have shipped four goals in each of their last two league games but injuries have cost them dear and Bricknell is hoping they’ll rediscover their form in time for his old club.
“We’ve been going well in the FA Trophy,” he said.
“We beat Maldon in the previous round and we knocked Braintree out of the FA Cup this season.
“Hopefully we’ll have a couple of players back. We’re playing a National League side so we’ll have to be on our game.
“But we seem to raise our game in the cup ties this season so there’s no reason why we can’t do that again.”
Bricknell scored 31 goals in 80 appearances for Ebbsfleet before leaving in January 2015.
The 31-year-old enjoyed his time at Stonebridge Road and still looks out for their results.
“I was there for 18 months and it went really well,” he added.
“Ebbsfleet and the time at Billericay were the better clubs I played for.
“I don’t know any of the current players now but I’m looking forward to seeing the staff. I still follow their results and they’re a good club.”
Bricknell’s Fleet departure came just after they signed the likes of Danny Kedwell.
“Jamie Day got the job and he was doing the right thing by spending the money,” said Bricknell.
“Steve Brown was manager before and he didn’t want to do that, we only lost in the play-off final to Dover the previous season. But that was the direction that the club wanted to go and it got them promoted in the end.”
