Jordan Parkes can feel momentum building at Ebbsfleet after his two goals settled Tuesday’s National League South derby clash with Maidstone.
The summer signing from Hemel Hempstead has hit the ground running in Fleet colours, adding a much-needed new dimension to their attacking play.
Parkes, who scored 30 goals from midfield last season, showed his class again in front of a record crowd at the Gallagher Stadium as Daryl McMahon’s side made it two wins from their opening two games.
"It was brilliant to get the result after the weekend," Parkes said. "To get two wins back to back, it’s a great start to the season and the momentum’s building now.
"I enjoyed playing in local derbies when I was at Hemel so I know what it’s like to play in one and it was brilliant to score two and win the game.
"It’s why you play football. If it was like this every week, it’d be brilliant. Hopefully we can start getting more people through the gate at Ebbsfleet.
"It was lovely to play there and having the fans segregated as well was quite good because I knew where they were and could go and celebrate with them when I scored. It was a good atmosphere."
Parkes was one of three new signings in McMahon’s forward line at Maidstone and the team appears to have gelled already.
"I think Portugal was so key for that," said Parkes, referring to Ebbsfleet’s week-long training camp at the start of July. "As a new player coming into the team, it was a chance to get to know people straight away and we’ve got a good bond.
"We’re in it together, we all want to win, we know what we want to do at the end of the season. We want to be champions and get promotion, so we’re all reading off the same page.
"Hopefully that unity can get us some more points."
