Anthony Cook was delighted to answer his manager’s call with another influential display last Saturday.
The Fleet wideman scored his third goal of the season during the FA Cup win against Havant.
He said: “The gaffer has been on at me to create more chances and score more goals. He has played with me and against me a lot of times and he knows what I’m capable of.
“It’s nice to get a goal at any time. It’s better to get the victory and the FA Cup is a lovely competition to do well in.”
Cook is relishing his new role as a wing-back, although he does not see much difference from his more familiar position as a wide midfielder.
“It’s a new role for me but we keep the ball a lot so I get the ball quite high,” he said.
“It doesn’t really feel that you are playing as a wing-back, it’s more of a midfield role which is nothing new."
Competition for places in the 22-man Fleet squad means Cook knows there is no room for complacency.
He said: “There’s someone wanting your shirt, no-one wants to be on the bench or in the stand. We’ve got some good young players so you always have to be on your toes.”
