Fleet midfielder Anthony Cook insists they are not looking at what their title rivals are doing.
Having led the table on alphabetical order before the weekend, the Fleet went two points clear in National League South last Saturday by thrashing East Thurrock.
Maidenhead reclaimed top spot with a 1-0 win at Chelmsford on Monday night as the race for promotion looks set to go to the wire.
“We’re not looking at them, we’re only looking at ourselves,” said Cook after the win over East Thurrock. “If we do the job every game then we’ll win the league.
“We can’t take our foot off the gas. We were only top by alphabetical order (at the weekend) so of course we have to continue going and going, not look at any other team and just keep doing what we’re doing.
“We’re in a good run of form, we’ve won all our games bar one in the league since the turn of the year. We don’t take our foot off the gas in training. Everyone trains hard.”
Cook has only just reclaimed his place in the starting line-up after being on the bench for six matches.
But the team comes first, whoever is playing, for the former Bromley and Chelmsford man.
“We all know the job we’ve got to do. Every player, even in training, does their job and as long as we all play for the team then we’ll do well,” he said.
“Obviously every player wants to play but whether I’m starting or I come on to affect the game, I’m just going to do my best for the team and everyone has that attitude at the moment.
“We’re on track, we can’t take our foot off the gas and get complacent.”
