GOALS from Paul McCarthy and Roy Essandoh secured a victory for Liam Daish in his first home game in charge of Gravesend against Tamoworth on Saturday.

The Fleet were always in control and Essandoh twice went close early on.

Their pressure was finally rewarded two minutes before half-time. When Tamowrth goalkeeper Ricky Millard spilled Lee Protheroe’s long free kick and McCarthy had the easiest of tap ins.

Gravesend were indebted to McCarthy a minute into the second half when he cleared Bob Taylor’s effort off the line.

It proved crucial as nine minutes later another Protheroe cross caused problems in the visiting defence and Essandoh was on hand to head in his first goal since October.

Tamworth’s Taylor had one attempt cleared off the line by Graham Porter but it was a rare scare for a solid Gravesend back line.

Daish said after the game: "It was an excellent three points. It has been a great day for me and I really enjoyed it."
