Davis hopeful over Appiah case

Ebbsfleet chief executive David Davis is confident of a positive outcome following the Football Association’s decision to charge Peterborough with an illegal approach for their former striker Kwesi Appiah.

The Fleet lodged a complaint with the FA over the signing of Appiah on a non-contract basis last month.

Peterborough have been charged under rule E1 (B) for an alleged breach of C2 (A). The Posh have requested a personal hearing, but no date has yet been fixed.

Mr Davis said: “The FA think there is a case to answer. We have now got to wait for them and we’ll take it from there.

“We just hope our complaint is vindicated.

“Obviously we want Kwesi to do well, but we find it frustrating that we have invested a couple of years in him and he hasn’t played 90 minutes (for us).

“It’s simply a case of letting them (the FA) come to a decision and seeing what the outcome is. The approach we’re taking is that it is in the FA’s hands.”

Appiah, who is a product of the Fleet’s youth set-up, failed to report back to the club after playing against Eastbourne Borough on September 23.

After being given seven days’ notice of approach, the Fleet became aware that Appiah had been in contact with Peterborough and was training with them, before the period had expired.

Mr Davis was full of praise for the Fleet – and their fans – following their 1-0 defeat against Crewe in the FA Cup first round last Saturday.

He added: “I thought they were superb and deserved at least a draw, if not a win. The supporters were also in good voice and it is the loudest I have heard them away from home.”
