Several players look set to leave Ebbsfleet United in the early part of this week.

Fleet boss Jamie Day, who's just made five new signings in as many days, admits his squad of 30 is far too big and needs to be reduced by up to a third.

Day expects to bring in more new faces this week - and that means there must be departures.

Speaking after the Fleet's 1-0 FA Trophy win over Forest Green on Saturday, he said: "It’s tough because the boys have put in a good shift. We won on Sunday at Boreham Wood and got another result today.

"But the trouble is, if you have too many players in the squad, not everyone can be happy. You can’t create that environment of team spirit, everyone working for each other, if you’re leaving 10 out every week.

"We’ll sit down tomorrow (Sunday) and speak to a couple of players and explain what the positions are. Then it’s down to them to decide what they want to do.

"I won’t force anyone out, because I don’t work like that, but we’ll let each player know where they stand and where I see them in the squad. We’ll go from there.

"They all want to play games so I’m sure they’ll understand."

Day was asked whether he would be making more new signings this week.

"Maybe," he said. "We’re speaking to one or two more but I think once we get one or two more in next week, we’re done and then we’ll get to 20-22 in the squad. That’s the group of players we’ve got to nail down for the rest of the season, to try to get in the play-offs and further.

"We need to sort it out pretty quickly and I think, after next week, there will be no more transfers coming in."
