Ebbsfleet boss Jamie Day admitted his team didn't deserve to win at Bishop's Stortford on Saturday.

It finished 1-1 at the ProKit UK Stadium and relegation-threatened Stortford had their ambitious visitors on the back foot for much of the second half.

Day said: "We probably lacked a bit of quality in midfield, as in creating chances, especially in the second half, but the back-four stood up to everything that was thrown at them in the final 20 minutes. I felt we dealt with that really well, so there are positives to come out of it.

"I know people are going to be disappointed that we’ve come here and drawn, because they expect us to win, but there are no easy games in this league."

It was a strange day in Vanarama Conference South, with only two of the division's top 12 sides winning. This result leaves Fleet eighth, six points from the play-offs.

Day said: "It’s a tough league. You’ve got people at the bottom fighting because they don’t want to get relegated and obviously there’s teams at the top that are trying to get into the play-offs. There’s all types of different pressures for all the teams that are playing.

"We had to battle and grind it out on Saturday, dig in there at times. I’m disappointed that we couldn’t get three points but we’ve got four from two games and that’s how we’ve got to look at it."

Given the other results, was this a point gained for Ebbsfleet or a missed opportunity?

"I think it’s a bit of both," Day said. "If we’d won, we put ourselves in a better position but we didn’t deserve to win the game. I thought a draw was probably a fair result.

"We had the better of the first half and in fairness to them, they were better than us in the second half. We lacked a little bit of quality to create chances.

"The boys are disappointed again but I don’t want to keep feeling down because we’ve got to try to achieve getting in the play-offs. We’ve got to pick them up a little bit and look forward to the game on Tuesday night."

That game is against title-chasing local rivals Bromley at Stonebridge Road. It promises to be a stern test for new-look Fleet but Saturday's performance at Stortford hasn't dented Day's belief that his side can still sneak into the play-offs.

He said: "There are 12 games to go and we’re not going to win every game, it’s impossible.

"But this one point might get us in the play-offs so that’s how we’ve got to look at it.

"We’ve just got to keep going. The league’s unpredictable – games where you think you’re going to win, you get beat, and other teams (will do that) as well. We’ve got to keep plucking out the points and picking up as many as we can and hopefully that’s enough to get us into the top-five."
