Midfielder Andy Drury is getting Fleet boss Daryl McMahon’s message out onto the pitch.
The duo played together at Stevenage and that factor, plus Drury’s experience, means that he is seeing the same things as McMahon.
McMahon said: “It’s important. As a young manager of only 18 months, you like to have someone on the pitch that can think like you.
“You can’t always get every bit of information on. We were similar players and he sees things that I probably see as well, so he can help me on the pitch by doing things that I would have done.
"Sometimes you can be a frustrated manager when that happens but Drury does that job well for us.”
Drury made the switch from Eastleigh at the end of November but has already made a big impact at Stonebridge Road. The 33-year-old will prove a key figure in the centre of midfield in the second half of the season and McMahon believes he will only get better.
“Everyone knows how much of a good footballer he is, he is two or three passes ahead of everyone,” added McMahon.
“In the coming weeks and games we will see him control games even more than he is at the minute, once players get used to him and his style of play. He has settled in well.
“It’s hectic in this league, especially in the middle of the pitch and when you’re as good as Drury, then they are going to press you.
“He has to get used to that and he will. It’s about other players bouncing off him as well.”
