Steve Gritt is relishing the chance to get back in the dugout for the first time in more than a decade.

The 55-year-old, who alongside Alan Curbishley spent four seasons as joint-manager of Charlton, was this week named Steve Brown’s assistant at Ebbsfleet.

Gritt’s last role in senior management was at Millwall in 2000. More recently, he has taken charge of the Charlton academy.

He said: "Steve called me to say he’d like me to join the team. It was an exciting thought and it’s that really that attracted me here, and the chance to get back in the dugout again. You don’t get those calls very often.

"I’ve known Steve for a long time, I know what he’s like as a person and I know what his work ethic’s like. I’m looking forward to working with Peter (Varney) again, who I worked with closely at Charlton.

"Peter knows the two of us very well. I know how Peter works and I don’t think you could wish to work for someone better.

"It’s been tough for the club over the last couple of years but hopefully we can blend the experiences we’ve gained over the years to bring some success back to Ebbsfleet."
