Ebbsfleet manager Dennis Kutrieb insists there’s still room for improvement.
The Fleet made it 10 wins from 11 games as they continue to set the pace at the top of National League South, with second-placed Havant impressively remaining just two points behind them.
Kutrieb’s men put five goals past Taunton at Stonebridge Road on Saturday and while the Fleet boss had nothing to moan about from that contest, he’s keen that they continue to strive to reach greater heights.
“Everyone can improve,” said Kutrieb. “I’m very happy with the performance and I’m happy to be manager of the team because they have so much quality and so much to offer. They’re honest and are good characters and show it week in, week out.
“We’ve ticked off the first 10 games, now we focus on the next 10 – we’ve ticked the first one off, we have nine more and then we can see where we are after 20 games. That’s all we can do.
“Obviously, it was good to see and it was a good performance. You can improve and you have to improve as other teams will improve as well. Teams will try to beat us, as Taunton tried, but we showed them from the first minute not today, maybe next week you can win the game.
“That’s the only thing you can do. I’ve got big respect for them because they got promoted and conceded just six goals in 10 games is amazing. I’m not sitting here and saying we’ve scored five against a promoted side and could have scored more, I’m very pleased and humbled as not many teams will score five against them.
“I would be stupid if I sat here and said 28 points from 10 games is not good enough. But what can you do? 30, yeah, but I’m not a dreamer so if we can get another 28 points then I would start to smile as that would be amazing but it’s really hard work. I’m really happy we’ve ticked this one off with three points.”
Ebbsfleet continued to turn the screw against Taunton in the second half, even with the points in the bag during a one-sided encounter.
Their relentless approach impressed the Fleet boss.
“What pleased me most is that they didn’t stop, they just went on and on,” added Kutrieb.
“We can’t afford to stop at any point because we think we’ve done enough.
“I’ve nothing to moan about. They did what they had to do and worked hard from the first minute to last. We could have scored three goals in the first three minutes. We started strong and ended strong.
“I’m very demanding. They want to do it and work hard. I can see the strikers are desperate to score more goals, everyone loves to score goals.”
So did that make it Ebbsfleet’s best performance of the season so far?
“Maybe,” said the Fleet boss. “I saw some really good patterns and high energy levels and determination all over the pitch.
“I don’t know if it was the best performance but it was not easy to play this game as they had conceded just six goals in 10 games. To send them home with five goals against is very good.”
