Burton Albion 1 Gravesend & N 1
GRAVESEND & Northfleet boss Andy Ford will have been more than satisfied with the draw his side gained at Burton Albion last night.
Despite the long journey to Nottingham, it was Fleet who shone early on and on 18 minutes they took a deserved lead. A cross from Jimmy Jackson found Jimmy Strouts running in and he powered his header home from eight yards.
Fleet continued to press but weren't able to carve out any clear-cut chances and they were grateful to keeper Lee Wilkinson for pulling off a super save at point blank range from Steve Evans just before the break.
Fleet continued to press after the break but Burton levelled on 50 minutes when Lee Glover, the former Notts Forest striker signed by Nigel Clough earlier in the day, cut inside Jackson and curled a superb left footed shot into the top corner.
The game ebbed and flowed but neither side could find the killer punch. Fleet came closest two minutes from time when Tostao Kwashi fired a ball across the area and Liam Hatch stole in but only managed to play the ball back across goal and Burton were able to clear.
Fleet: Wilkinson, Lee Watts, Burton, Jackson, Owen (Parker 60 mins), McKimm, Strouts, Kwashi, Stadhart, Sodje (Hatch 80 mins). Unused: Turner, Skinner, Wilkins.
