Anthony Cook scored his first senior hat-trick on Tuesday night – and then insisted the three points were the only thing on his mind.
Cook set the tone for the 8-0 rout of Bishop’s Stortford in National League South with two first-half goals.
But the thought of completing his first-ever treble was never his main focus after half-time.
“We were told to be more prolific in front of goal and we did that!” said Cook.
“The hat-trick was never really on my mind, it was more just getting the job done. We were professional, never took our foot off the gas and got eight goals.”
Cook took his tally for the season into double figures, with five goals coming in the last month.
He added: “I’m pleased to get a hat-trick. I could have got one earlier in the season.
“That’s 10 now which is quite good considering I’ve been playing wing-back for the majority of the season.”
Cook’s hat-trick was full of quality as well, with all three goals coming from outside the penalty area.
He said: “The first one was a corner that dropped to the edge of the box. The second one, Powelly (Jack Powell) made a good run and as soon as I hit it I knew it was in.
“It was the same with the third one. I seem to be better from outside the box than I am inside at the moment.
“You are proud when you get a hat-trick or reach a milestone that you set yourself in the season but the most important thing is that we got the win because we need to keep winning."
