Fleet ahoy for Leberl?

LEBERL: at home in various roles
LEBERL: at home in various roles

GRAVESEND & Northfleet are being linked with two further raids on Kent Conference rivals Margate after targeting Jake Leberl and Rocky Baptiste.

Having already snapped up Jay Saunders and Graham Porter, manager Andy Ford is believed to be closing in on 27-year-old Leberl, Margate’s Players’ Player of the Year.

Leberl, a utility player, is equally at home at centre-back, sweeper or midfield. He signed for Margate from Dover at the start of the season having previously played for Crewe.

Providing there are no hitches, the deal could be completed this week. The Fleet may then move for striker Baptiste once he returns from holiday.

Ford confirmed he is looking for more players on top of the four signed already. Meanwhile, Gravesend centre-back and Player of the Year Chris Moore has been honoured with his selection to the Carlsberg sponsored Team of the Year in the Non-League paper.

* Gravesend’s pre-season friendly against Grays, scheduled for Tuesday, July 13, has been cancelled.
