Wealdstone FC say there is no evidence to support Brandon Hall’s claim that he was spat at by one of their supporters on Easter Monday.
Hall, the Ebbsfleet United goalkeeper, said he heard and saw a middle-aged man in the home end spit at him when he went to take a goal kick.
He reported the incident to the referee, who mentioned it to the stewards and included it in his post-match report.
But the man faces no further action following Wealdstone’s internal investigation.
Hall said: "The ball went out of play behind my goal and I’ve gone to pick the ball up.
"As I’ve gone to turn, I could clearly hear someone spitting and I saw it whizz by the side of my face. It was appalling.
"I’ll take any abuse. I hear it all the time as a goalkeeper because people are right next to the goal but spitting crosses the line."
Wealdstone chairman Howard Krais was at the far end of the ground and didn't see the incident but he read the referee's report and safety officer's report after the game.
He said: "We had three stewards in the home end and all of them were close to the incident.
"We’ve talked to them and we’ve talked to other respected fans. Those people had good views and nobody saw any evidence of spitting.
“We take this seriously because in the past we have had to take action against some of our fans.
“But the individual who it’s suggested was involved denies the accusation.
“We’ve done everything we believe we could and there’s no evidence of spitting, so it’s the goalkeeper’s word against everybody else’s."
Ebbsfleet manager Jamie Day spoke out in support of his player.
He said: "I back what Brandon is saying 100%. That is not right in football.
"No player, whether they’re at Ebbsfleet or not, should be spat at."
