Fleet lacking in desire

EBBSFLEET manager Liam Daish was left questioning his side’s desire after a second successive home defeat on Tuesday night.

Antonio Murray’s 50th-minute header handed robust Histon maximum points and left Daish with plenty to ponder.

In an honest admission, Daish said: "What concerned me was it looked like they had a bit more desire and hunger. It should always be there and I was disappointed with a few of my players."

Of equal concern to Daish will be the fact that his side failed to force Histon keeper Mark Osborn into making a save during the 90 minutes.

The Fleet started with Luke Moore playing behind the front two but Raphael Nade and Chukki Eribenne both failed to have an impact.

Histon wasted the best two openings of the first half. Fleet keeper Scott Tynan did well to parry Cliff Akurang’s low shot before Murray poked the ball inches past the upright following Warren Goodhind’s weak back header.

The only goal arrived five minutes after the break when Kennedy crossed for Murray to head back across goal and put Histon ahead. It was a lead they never looked like losing.

Ebbsfleet: Tynan, Hawkins, Goodhind, Bostwick, McPhee, Slatter, Moore, Long, Purcell, Eribenne (DeBolla 75mins), Nade (Liam Coleman 46mins). Subs not used: Cronin, Starkey, Maskell. Attendance: 866.
