GRAVESEND manager Liam Daish returns to his old club Cambridge United on Saturday keen to maintain momentum following his side’s excellent performance in Friday’s 2-0 home defeat of Canvey Island.

Daish made no secret of his deep disappointment at Tuesday’s postponement of the home game against title-chasing Grays as victory would have left the club six points adrift of the play-off places.

He said: "We were disappointed with Tuesday’s postponenment because we all wanted to pick up where we left off against Canvey. Now we must focus on Cambridge because I believe that 12 wins will get us into the play-offs.

"Now we need 11 after beating Canvey, so that’s one down. If the players re-produce the desire and the tempo we showed against Canvey then we’ll always have a chance."

The match marks a quick return to his former club for newly-signed Fleet midfielder Ashley Fuller who made his debut as an 88th minute substitute against Canvey to set up Charlie MacDonald’s 14th goal of the season.

Left-sided midfielder Robert Watkins, who joined the Fleet this week on loan from Fulham, is certain to be in the squad.

Meanwhile, Craig Holloway is among three goalkeepers named in manager Paul Fairclough’s initial 26-player group from which he will select his final England semi-professional squad for the European Challenge Trophy competition which takes place at Cambridge United’s Abbey Stadium February 5.

Other competing nations are Belgium and Holland.
