Fleet marksman ruled out for season

TORN HAMSTRING: Charlie MacDonald
TORN HAMSTRING: Charlie MacDonald

TOP-SCORER Charlie MacDonald will miss Gravesend’s remaining nine games of the season.

Manager Liam Daish reluctantly conceded that his 12-goal striker has lost the fight to recover from a torn hamstring.

He last played for the side in the 1-1 draw at Cambridge on January 28 when he sustained a knee injury. The knee appeared to be on the mend but the forward tore a hamstring while warming up before the match at York on March 11.

"Losing Charlie is a major blow," said Daish. "We had hoped to have him back before the end of the season but that’s not going to happen.

"He was on the mend until suffering what was a freak injury at York. Though Charlie is valuable to us, you cannot wrap him in cotton wool."
