Ebbsfleet missed the chance to close the gap to the top in Vanarama South after being pegged back from 2-0 ahead against promotion rivals Gosport Borough on Saturday.
Fleet looked in cruise control with less than half-an-hour to play and a two-goal advantage, however Jamie Day’s side were punished with two goals inside three minutes and had to settle for a point apiece.
It was a day of big results in the division as leaders Boreham Wood lost 4-0 at home to Basingstoke, now third, while second-placed Bromley closed the gap with a 2-0 win over Havant & Waterloovile, who slipped to fourth, with fifth-placed Whitehawk going down 2-1 at Chelmsford, sat seventh.
Fleet sit eight, just 12 points behind the leaders, and four points outside the play-off places, though with a game in hand.
On Saturday they made a perfect start as new arrival Adam Cunnington gave them the lead with his second goal in as many games after being played clean through just 98 seconds in.
Fleet were thwarted on numerous occasions by Gosport keeper Nathan Ashmore, who denied Danny Kedwell, Sean Shields and Cunnington before the break, while Preston Edwards was only called into action once at the other end to deny Matt Paterson after a Juston Bennett pass.
Fleet finally added the second 15 minutes into the second half and the game looked up when Cunnington bagged his second after good work from Shields, however sixth-placed Borough battled back within six minutes as Paterson halved the deficit, slipping the ball under Edwards after latching onto a through-ball.
Day’s men were stunned when Dan Wooden then levelled less than three minutes later with a blockbuster strike into the top-corner from range.
The hosts smelt blood and Matt Fish had to clear one off his own line before Bennett went close to winning it in stoppage-time with a free-kick which rattled the bar on the way over.
