A SECOND-HALF penalty ended Ebbsfleet United’s unbeaten run as Liam Daish’s side suffered a 2-0 defeat against Aldershot Town in the Blue Square Premier on Tuesday.

Fleet manager Daish made just one change to the side that beat Torquay 2-1 with Mark Ricketts coming in for John Hastings.

The visitors started the game strongly and were unlucky not to take the lead on nine minutes when Chris McPhee hit the post with a shot from the edge of the area.

The turning point came on 69 miniutes when Mark Ricketts was adjudged to have fouled Rob Elvins in the area, with the referee awarding Aldershot a penalty.

Skipper Rhys Day confidently dispatched the spot-kick, firing the ball into the top right hand corner to leave keeper Lance Cronin with no chance.

Fleet were left to rue earlier missed chances and the home side wrapped up the points four minutes from time when Louis Soares raced clear to shoot past Cronin to send the Shots to the top of the table.
