Fleet sign former Chelsea man

SLATTER: on a full-time contract
SLATTER: on a full-time contract

GRAVESEND & Northfleet boss Liam Daish has snapped up ex-Chelsea and Wales under-21 player Danny Slatter from Welling.

The Cardiff-born midfielder joins other new boys, striker Charlie MacDonald and utility defender Scott Gooding, at Stonebridge Road.

The signing of Slatter, Welling’s 24-year-old player of the year, is a triumph of perseverance for Daish who attempted to bring him from Park View Road when he succeeded Andy Ford in February.

Slatter will play on a full-time contract and Daish believes it is the club’s decision to switch from part-time football that proved crucial in him getting his man.

During Daish’s reign as caretaker boss at Welling, Slatter scored twice in the four games he was in charge.

"He can play in central midfield or out wide and is just the right age," said Daish. "The fact that we are now a full-time club had a big bearing on his decision."
