Fleet skipper dedicates Wembley final to fans

CAPTAIN Paul McCarthy dedicated Ebbsfleet United's FA Trophy win over Aldershot Town to the club’s hardcore supporters.

In November, fans community website MyFootballClub agreed a deal to take over the club with more than 20,000 members each paying £35 to provide a £700,000 takeover pot.

But McCarthy, who put in an outstanding display at the heart of Fleet’s defence, was keen to acknowledge the supporters who have followed the club since it was formerly known as Gravesend & Northfleet.

“It means a great deal, especially to the ones who have been with us for a long time,” said McCarthy.

“And the ones who have joined in with this MyFootballClub thing, it means a lot to them as well.

“But the fans who have been coming week in, week out and travelling away. There might only be 10 of them and I could probably name them all. They come every week to away games and they must be absolutely thrilled.”
