Ebbsfleet United boss Kevin Watson wants to bring in as many as four players this month.
The Fleet are in desperate need of a shake-up following last weekend’s seven-goal National League mauling at leaders Barrow.
Ebbsfleet named ex-Gillingham boss Steve Lovell – who applied for the managerial job when they appointed Watson in October – as director of football on New Year’s Day.
They’ve already been turned down by two players, including a potential loan move for Gills left-back Bradley Garmston, but landed Jermaine McGlashan on Wednesday.
“I’d like to get three or four players in,” said Watson, speaking ahead of that signing.
“We’re looking and trying but it’s will players want to come to us with where we are in the table, and do they have the right character?
“We’ve been turned down by two players already but you have to keep knocking at the door and see where it takes us.
“We both watched Charlton versus Ipswich under-23s on Monday. Some of those boys have never played for three points which mean something before.
“We’ve not got the time to give them games and help their parent club, they’ve got to be up for a fight and help us stay in the National League. You’ve got to try and visualise if they can do it – coaches and agents can tell you they can, but it’s your neck on the block if they can’t.
“We’re a good group and a good club, whether players want to come is a different matter.”
Watson has not watched back Fleet's seven-goal drubbing at Barrow - a team he expects to go close in the title race this season.
"Barrow were excellent in what they did," added Watson. "They gave us a chasing in the last 14 minutes.
"I said to their manager that whoever finishes above them will be champions because they are as good a side I have seen this season. I'm not just saying that as they bashed us - they really are.
"I've not watched it back - I saw enough on Saturday to be honest.
"Sometimes you need a result like last Saturday so that is where we draw the line. Look at Southampton, they conceded nine goals to Leicester and everyone thought they were doomed but they've come again and got going.
"It's a wake-up for everybody of the predicament and the mire we're in.
"We've got two weeks until our next league game and that's the priority - to get players in and to get players back fit like Myles Weston and Alex Lawless."
