Freak injury to Andy Pugh may have cut short former Gillingham forward's loan spell at Ebbsfleet United

Andy Pugh’s nightmare loan spell with Ebbsfleet got even worse last week when the striker broke his wrist in a freak training ground accident.

Pugh, the former Gillingham and Welling forward, suffered the injury when he returned to train with his parent club Cambridge United.

The 24-year-old has made just three appearances during his two months with the Fleet, completing 90 minutes only once. His loan spell is due to expire on November 23 but he may now have played his last game for the north Kent club.

Ebbsfleet manager Steve Brown said: “Loan players can go back to train with their parent club and Andy went back to Cambridge to do some

training.

“It was bizarre. He was doing an exercise and when he jumped up, he caught his wrist on some gym equipment. It’s in a cast for a week, they’ll take it off on Friday and if it hasn’t healed, he’ll need an operation."

Pugh made his Fleet debut in the goalless draw against Boreham Wood on September 28 and he lined up against Sittingbourne in the Kent Senior Cup three days later.

However, an ankle injury forced him off 25 minutes into that game and he didn’t play again until the league meeting with Concord on November 2, when he scored in a 4-0 win.

Brown said: “The most frustrated person isn’t me, it’s Andy Pugh. He’s had a disrupted season and he’d love to be doing more."
