The man who used to face Harry Kane in training is relishing a new chapter in his football career at Ebbsfleet United.
Goalkeeper Jon Miles spent 14 years with Tottenham Hotspur but when the Premier League club released him earlier this month, Fleet boss Daryl McMahon moved quickly to snap him up.
Miles admitted he was sad to leave Spurs, where he played in the same youth side as England striker Kane, but he’s already looking forward to life in non-league with Ebbsfleet.
The 22-year-old said: "I heard there was interest from my agent and was excited.
"I knew about the new gaffer, Daryl because he’d been around the training ground at Tottenham helping with stuff and doing his badges.
"I came to meet the manager and was impressed by the vision for the future of the club and the views of the stadium.
"It was about making the right choice for my career and I feel like I’ve made the right decision. I can’t wait to get started."
First-team opportunities were always going to be limited for Miles at Spurs, where Hugo Lloris, Michel Vorm and Brad Friedel were all ahead of him in the pecking order.
But he said: "I’ve only got good things to say about Tottenham. They supported me through so much and brought me on as a person and a footballer.
"I’ve got lots of good memories, especially of playing alongside Harry Kane.
"He was the same age as me, so we played together from under-13 upwards. He was always a top player and a top guy as well."
