Matt Godden had three reasons to celebrate after scoring Ebbsfleet's stoppage-time winner on Boxing Day.

His goal in the 93rd minute clinched a 4-2 victory over Concord Rangers at Stonebridge Road which extended the Fleet's lead at the top of National League South to 10 points.

Godden took his season's tally to 18 in the process, having scored in seven consecutive matches before drawing a blank in Ebbsfleet's 1-0 defeat at home to Bath last Saturday.

And the goal came exactly a decade after the death of Godden's grandfather on Boxing Day 2005.

He said: "I really wanted to score today to get on a goalscoring run again. I know it’s only one game (without a goal) but I like to keep my run going.

"It’s 10 years since my Grandad passed away, so that gave me a bit more motivation, as it always does in a Boxing Day game. I was pleased to get the goal in the last minute.

"He was my Dad’s dad and my Dad took me everywhere for football so he played a big part in today.

"I really wanted to score. I kept trying to score but at the same time, I’ve got to do my part for the team.

"If I’m not in the correct position to score... I went clear a couple of times and tried squaring it for Keds. I get the same buzz off Keds scoring as I do myself. We’re working well together."

The partnership, which has now yielded 26 goals this season, was perfectly illustrated as Ebbsfleet took a 32nd-minute lead.

Anthony Cook won a tackle in midfield and Godden spotted Kedwell's diagonal run across the Concord backline, playing him in for a rasping left-footed finish.

He said: "I saw Cookie was 90% going to get the ball because the guy took a heavy touch, so I gambled and started driving. As soon as I saw Keds make his move, I knew what I was going to do and where to put it.

"As soon as you see it hit the back of the net, it’s pleasing for you to know you’ve got an assist but also pleasing for him. He’s my strike partner at the end of the day, someone I’ve played 21 or 22 games with. We’ve got a special bond at the moment.

"I just think we work really well together. He’s obviously a bigger presence but he’s so clever and I can then time my runs off him.

"Everyone knows my game, that I like to play on the shoulder of the last defender and give myself opportunities.

"With him doing that, defenders are scared of him, so it gives me a massive incentive to go and work alongside him and play off him."

Godden's goal helped Ebbsfleet take a significant stride in the title race.

He said: "It’s a massive win. We’ve seen the results of what’s gone on elsewhere, similar to last week. The three points is huge for us and the goal’s a bonus.

"It got to the 90th minute and I still hadn’t scored so to notch in the 93rd, you saw by the celebration…

"I know we were winning 3-2 but it was a massive goal personally and for the team, to give us a bit of breathing space."
