Gravesend were edged 18-3 by London 2 South title rivals Cobham on Saturday. The home side’s strong start was rewarded with a penalty and a converted try, but Gravesend responded with a penalty from Gary Gray to make the score 10-3.
Lack of communication at the base of Gravesend scrum allowed Cobham a turn over from which they ran in an unconverted try for a half-time lead of 15-3.
From the start of the second half Gravesend showed more intent, centre Matt Weighman went close with an incisive burst and Gray made some neat breaks, but Cobham’s aggressive defence matched the threats.
The only scoring in the second half came from a Cobham penalty.
