The National League South title race could be decided on goal difference after Ebbsfleet dropped two points against 10-man Hampton on Saturday.
Fleet captain Danny Kedwell saw a second-half penalty saved and it needed a 90th-minute equaliser by Bradley Bubb to rescue a point.
The draw leaves Fleet three points behind leaders Maidenhead, who won at Bishop's Stortford, with six games left.
Fleet boss Daryl McMahon made two changes from the midweek thrashing of Bishop's Stortford.
In came Jack Connors at left-back for Jake Howells while the midfield bite of Dean Rance was preferred to the flair of Jack Powell.
Within the opening minutes, the decision to go for Rance was clear as the game quickly developed into a scrappy affair on a poor pitch where the ball bobbled regularly.
Twice in the opening 10 minutes, Fleet's Anthony Cook was thwarted by the playing surface, firing over from 20 yards after a bobble and then sending a left-foot cross well off target.
It took Hampton nearly half an hour to register a serious attempt at goal but Shamir Mullings' near-post effort from a left-wing cross was deflected over the bar with keeper Nathan Ashmore scrambling.
Two bookings in the space of three minutes just before the break handed Fleet a big advantage for the second half.
Sam Deering had already been taken out once in front of the visiting dugout with not even a free-kick awarded. When it happened again moments later, Duncan Culley was shown a yellow card by referee Matty Buonassisi.
Three minutes later, Culley chased a through ball that was being gathered by Ashmore, Stupidly he left his foot in on the keeper, catching him above the waist and leaving the referee with no alternative but to show a second yellow card and then a red.
Hampton started brightly in the second half despite being a man short and Mullings should have given them the lead on 50 minutes.
A move down the right saw a cross fall perfectly for Mullings. Denied by Mark Phillips at first, Mullings then fired the rebound over the bar from six yards when a goal seemed certain.
Mullings was a handful for the Fleet defence in the second half and they were on the backfoot when Harold Odametey put them ahead on the hour mark.
Odametey was brave to get past Kenny Clark and leave himself on with just Ashmore to beat. Showing plenty of composure, Odametey lobbed the Fleet keeper and put his side ahead.
Fleet, straight after making a double substitution, were handed a lifeline back into the game on 69 minutes when Kiernan tripped Cook.
But Kedwell put his spot-kick to keeper Sam Howes' right and the Hampton man got down brilliantly to turn his penalty behind for a corner.
Fleet struggled to create any chances of note as the minutes ticked by but they found an equaliser in the 90th minute. Hampton's Sam Gallagher sent his clearance high in his own penalty area and Bubb was able to hook his effort beyond the reach of Howes.
Cook fired over in stoppage time as Fleet pressed for a winner but they'd left themselves too much to do.
