Ebbsfleet are looking at former Dagenham & Redbridge striker Tomi Adeloye.
Adeloye started against Charlton on Tuesday night and scored Fleet's second goal in a 2-1 win.
He made 27 appearances for the Daggers last season, scoring three goals, including the winner at Stonebridge Road towards the end of the campaign.
"He took his goal well," said boss Garry Hill after the game.
"He's been training with us, he's mobile and that's an area, the forward end, which I'm looking at.
"He did himself a lot of good tonight and he's enjoyed training.
"He's a very nice lad and he's put himself in a better position than he was before the game.
"But I won't rush. They all know that. Some people think 'why not?' or 'you've got to do it now' but it doesn't affect me.
"We'll be ready over the next two-and-a-half weeks, having a team which is going to be competitive this year."
Ebbsfleet may only have 12 players signed up but they were the better side against Charlton, who gave most of their big names an hour on Tuesday.
"We haven’t got the numbers," Hill admitted. "It will be a small squad for us this year and hopefully quality over quantity. I think you can see there are some good players signed on.
"There’s no secret it’s been a hard summer. I’m not being conceited but there’s not too many people who have been in a position like that.
"I’ve never experienced it before, I must be honest, it’s been tough and it still will be tough.
"But the players I’m signing are good, experienced players, good characters and the club needs that this season.
"Last year I inherited and this year I’m recruiting. Even though the wage structure has changed a lot, it’s 50 or 60% down on last year, the type of players we’re trying to sign, quality over quantity, hopefully will help us going forward where it’ll be quite exciting for the supporters seeing a little bit of fresh blood into the football club.
"You’ve got players coming into the football club who I feel are proven at this level and above with success.
"Near enough every player has played in the Football League and every player’s got to the play-offs in the National League or above and won honours.
"When you look at players like Lawrie Wilson and Aswad Thomas, they've been successful. Thomas did it with Grimsby, Lawrie Wilson’s won at higher levels with Bolton, Jack King’s been there and done it and Jamie Grimes got to the play-offs with Dover.
"You look at the powerhouses in midfield, Ayo Obileye's 24, James Ball 23, John Goddard 26, Sean Shields 25 and a man in midfield (Alex Lawless) who’s very experienced and won it twice with Orient and Luton, a model pro.
"We’re three or four players short. We’ve got some trialists here with us but I’ve never panicked, I’ve never rushed, I pick and choose how I go along and I understand that players want to get themselves sorted, which I respect, but I’ll do what I think is right for me and the football club."
